inexpensive planters
For complete instructions visit here

You just need some inexpensive - large- terra cotta or clay planters and some puffy paint. You can buy the paint in Mississauga at Michael’s or any Wal-Mart . Look for 3-d puffy fabric paint. It caost about 3.00 for a small bottle. I like the white on the clay- maybe even an off white but I wouldn’t go too crazy. Keep your pattern simple.

Use you own plants or visit local Mississauga or Oakville nursery to get colourful plant or small trees.
try Terra Greenhouses or Springbank Greenhouses in Mississauga.

Liquid Stainless Steel- Get Stainless Steel Finish – Right Out of a Can!

Are you getting your home ready to sell? Call me for ideas on how to get the most return on your investment. Lea Jensen 905-891-8089

Are you getting your Oakville or Mississauga area house ready to sell this Spring? Here is a nifty new product geared toward making the most of your renovations, big or small. Liguid Stainless Steel . I read an article about it in the Globe and Mail in the section under ‘New Products’.

The author of the article Elizabeth Rand-Watkinson pointed out that she saw it in one of the design magazines and the ad called it “the world’s first brush-on stainless steel for your home”. For a look at the process or if you want to send away for a sample you can go to www.liquidstainlesssteel.com .

How To Use Liquid Stainless Steel

You apply micro pieces of metal in an automotive-grade resin with a roller or brush. Then you put on one or more layers of a clear topcoat, depending on the amount of shine desired. It produces an automotive-grade finish, it’s as durable as the finish on your car . It is also quick-drying and can be applied to glass, brass, chrome, wood, metal and plastic. So it is perfect for appliances, including ranges and toasters. I think it would be wonderful to update that old backsplash you thought you had to replace. What a great way to give your kitchen an instant updated look!

A complete kit, enough to coat a stove, dishwasher and refrigerator, costs $129 and is available from the website.

Another option for the do-it-yourselfer is the Krylon line of spray paints for metal appliances or plastic surfaces.

Selling Your Home- Small Repair Checklist

When getting your home ready to showcase and sell there can be so many big projects that you forget the little ones. Small repairs can really stand ou and are often the ones people notice most. Here is a list of some things that home owners may over look when getting their home ready to sell. Ask your real estate agent to look over your house with you- fresh eyes will pick up the things you miss.
When buyers are looking at your home and see small things that signal neglect they may wonder about the big problem you may have ignored.

1. Bathroom and kitchen caulking. Make sure it is not only done but looks fresh. Check any ceramic tiles for cracks or chips or missing grout. repair these, It is easier then you think and make a big difference.

2. Leaking/dripping faucets, don’t forget the ones in laundry room. Maybe be as simple as changing the washer. If your faucets are looking dated consider putting in new faucets in at least your main bathroom and kitchen.

3. Replace burnt out light bulbs. Seems obvious. But potential buyers will turn on lights and test switches. Make sure light bulbs and light fixtures are working. Use “warm” type light bulbs.

Update Your Light Fixtures

Take a look at your ceilings. Do you have a tarnished brass “look” chandelier in your dining room? Do your kids bedrooms have the same light fixtures you did when you were a kids? Think about changing the fixtures.

It can be done fairly cheaply and is easier than you think. It is a job that can easily be done in afternoon. If you have any doubts at about your ability then hire an electrician.

What kind of light fixtures should you buy?
Make sure they fit style of your room. An ultra modern design in a traditional looking library will look odd. Keep colurs neutral. Don’t get a pick fixture that matches your daughters bedroom- potential byers don’t just have daughters.

Choose The Right Paint Colour Palette for 2008 to Get a Bigger Return on the Sale of Your Home

Are you getting ready to sell your house and are wondering the best way to get a great return on the dollars you spend? Whether you are trying to ‘wow’ potential buyers or simply want to get into the spirit of freshening up your home for spring, the new colours for 2008 can do the trick! Green is the new “neutral” with all the focus around living an eco-friendly lifestyle bringing outdoors indoors. The new choices are more botanical, drawing from sage, pine and moss. The browns are reminiscent of soil, sand and deep rich earth. Other neutral colours found in nature are being embraced as well, such as the beautiful hues found in stones, the beige’s found in sand and wood. The golden, warm hues of sunrise are also in play. Paint colours include fern greens, warm, red infused browns, tan-tinted yellows, mushroom inspired colours, and gray or brown neutrals with hints of green, pink, yellow and red. These calming colours are great choices for bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and more open-concept living spaces allowing you to use more than one neutral ‘beige’ colour to paint your whole house and give it instant ‘decorator appeal’ for the majority of buyers.

Fall Curb Appeal

Fall colours can really boost the curb appeal of your home. Use decorative containers filled with bright Fall mums at the entrance, Place on each side of your porch, either side of door on on the steps. Use yellows and oranges- dark browns can get lost.

Avoid a “Halloween” look. You may turn off potential buyers who don’t celebrate the holiday.
By all mean’s use pumpkins and gourd ( if raccoons are not a problem! ) They will last several weeks and are a great way to add colour.

Buy or make a Fall wreath. If you are crafty and can make a professional looking wreath for your front door- go for it. If you are not sure of your skills- better to buy one that looks well designed. You can pick up beautiful Autumn door hangers at Homesense, Linens and Things or Winners for a reasonable cost.

If you haven’t done so all ready- clear up your yard and front porch. Rake any leaves and make sure porch is clear of any flyers, kids toys or boxes.

Things That Add value to Your Home: Improving the Re-Sale Value of Your Home

Are you looking to sell your Mississauga or Oakville home?

Have you been thinking about selling you house- maybe not now but down the road? Are you looking to upgrade your home but not sure what will give you the most re-sale value?
There are some things you can do and are a good investment in terms of the resale value of your home.

Update Your Kitchen and Bath: Usually on the top of a list of things sellers can do to improve the resale value of their house is updating their kitchen and bathroom

Buyers are looking for kitchens with lots of workspace , new appliances and high quality counter tops , cupboards and flooring. If you plan on selling your house down the road spending money on your kitchen is a good choice.

En suite bath or master bath. More and more buyers are demanding an en suite to go with their master bedroom,. They are pretty much the standard in new homes being built. Most sought after features are spa tubs, a separate shower, double sinks and a newer trend- separate room fro the toilet. walk-in closets are also a feature buyers are looking out for.

Windows- Spending money on energy efficient windows is not only a great for the environment- but you will see a return on them when you go to sell your house. After furnace and roof windows are next on the savvy buyers list.

Be careful not to OVER do it- spending thousands on granite counter tops and travertine tile in a an area where laminate and ceramics are the norm may not see a big enough return. If you are thinking of selling you Mississauga, Oakville or Milton area home- I am happy to help. I can guide you on the best choices to make and where you money is best spent. Call me, Lea Jensen , at 905-822-5000 or email me for advice on adding value to your home.
